Edwardsville Family Photographer

Family sessions are full of love and laughter. Being a family photographer I get to watch your little ones grow. I love it! Did you know that Conner James Photography specializes in family sessions? By hiring a Edwardsville family photographer, you can be sure you are getting the best professional photographer for your family.

Getting your whole family ready for a session can be stressful for sure. We have all been there. It’s not easy. From hair, to clothes, to shoes, it is a lot of work. Preparing for the session can definitely help you to achieve your perfect family session.

Here are some ways to help you to prepare for your family session.

Start shopping early! Time moves fast and it can be hard to pick outfits for everyone. Start shopping as early as you can. You may have to go to more than one store. Think about what colors you want to wear before hand. Wear different patterns and colors. I always tell clients, bright neon colors do not photograph well! Stay away from bright neon colors.

Some of my favorite stores to shop at would be Old Navy, Tj Max, Target, and Walmart.

Old navy has amazingly priced clothes and looks for the whole family. Sales all the time too. you can see them here. www.oldnavy.com.

Tj Max has tons of things. You will need to shop a little harder to find the good stuff. They have dresses galore though! www.tjmax.com

Target is a great place to find good items. I like their jewelry and shoes for women. They have a-lot in kids though! www.target.com

Walmart has stepped up their game when it comes to clothes! They have new styles and prices everyone can afford. www.walmart.com

Think about the weather. If it is cold think about Jean jackets and sweaters. If it is warmer than short sleeves and summer dresses. Sometimes the weather can change, so you may want a light sweater or light jacket for the kids.

Prepare the night before. Set out all clothes the night before. Get all shoes out too! If you bought new clothes, remove all tags and such. Pull out jewelry if you are wear it.

Look up the directions the night before. Know where you are going and how long it will take to get there. Being late equals losing light which means losing time during your session. Leave early! Plan to leave at least 20 minutes earlier that you think to leave. Things happen and it is always better to be earlier than late.

Bring the essentials. Bring water. Kids will be thirsty. Bring snacks. Bring bribery if you need to. Bring a comb/brush. Jackets for kids. Depending on how little your kids are maybe even a second outfit.

Be positive. Kids notice everything.

If you are stressed they will be too. Just stay positive. The kids will feed off your positive energy and be happy.

Remember to have fun and enjoy your family. Live in the moments and love on your kids. The session doesn’t have to go perfectly to have amazing images. Your photographer has got this!

10 tips to help you to prepare for your first birthday session.

You had your newborn. You have brought your little one home from the hospital. Spent days and nights just staring at them in awe. You have had sleepless nights too. But your baby is absolutely worth it all. Those little lips, fingers, and toes are so precious.

Soon your baby is now able to look at you smile. They start sitting up. They smile and hold on to objects. Time moves fast. Suddenly you look up and they are crawling. Oh it is everything!

Your little one’s first birthday is coming up! It is such an important time to remember. You will want to book your session early! This way your photographer can plan and get your session ready. I offer three types of first sessions. I have a Simple first birthday session, Detailed first birthday session, and an Outside first birthday session.

First birthday sessions can be hard to plan for especially if you haven’t had one. Here are some tips to help you to prepare.

  1. Make sure to get a 6” cake. Big cakes are too much. Cupcakes can be good, but if it is too small the cake smash portion of the session will last about 3 minutes. A 6” cake is best.

  2. No sprinkles. While sprinkles are cute on the cake, they choke they baby.

  3. Leave the cake out of the fridge for at least 30 minutes before the session. Longer if possible. We want soft icing for the cake smash.

  4. I recommend two outfits for the session. One for the portraits and another outfit for the cake smash.

  5. If you have a colors or theme you would like be sure to tell your photographer.

  6. Do you want the photos back in time to use at your party? If so, then plan the session date for at least 3 weeks ahead of time! This way the photographer has time to edit and get the gallery back to you.

  7. Family photos. Do you want family photos with your first birthday session? Ask the photographer about this add on!

  8. Positive attitude. Some babies need extra encouragement. They need happy and excited energy from parents. Even if things aren’t going well at first, babies mods can change to happy so quickly. So try to stay positive and exited!

  9. Water. Bring water! Sugar makes babies thirsty. They will want to drink something.

  10. Extra change of clothes. When the session is done you will need an extra change of clothes for the baby. Also sometimes parents need an extra change of clothes from the baby wanting to be held while being cake covered.

Following these tips will help you to have a smooth first birthday session. I would love to be your Edwardsville first birthday photographer. I have a in home studio full of props to use. Capturing Timeless Memories: Your Ultimate Guide to a Perfect Family Photo Session

A professional family photo session is an amazing opportunity to create lasting memories and beautiful keepsakes. Proper preparation is key to achieving the best results, and in this comprehensive guide, we'll provide tips to help your family look great and have a memorable experience. We'll cover choosing the right photographer, preparing for the session, and displaying your final photographs. We'll also touch on common mistakes to avoid during the session.

Choosing the Right Photographer

Finding the ideal photographer starts with researching local professionals who specialize in family photography. Look for someone whose style resonates with you and your family. To gauge their style, creativity, and technical skills, check each photographer's online portfolio. Client testimonials can offer valuable insight into their professionalism and customer service, so read reviews to help narrow down your choices. Finally, schedule a consultation with your top picks to discuss your expectations, pricing, and availability. Choose a photographer you feel comfortable with and who understands your vision for the session.

Planning Your Session

Once you've chosen a photographer, it's time to plan your session. Start by selecting a meaningful location that offers a visually appealing backdrop. Your photographer can help you choose the perfect spot if you're unsure. Schedule the session at a time of day when natural light is optimal, such as early morning or late afternoon. When it comes to attire, plan your family's outfits so they complement each other without being overly matchy. Select a color palette and choose outfits that reflect your family's personality and style. For a polished look, consider hiring a professional hair and makeup artist, or at the very least, ensure everyone's grooming is on point.

Preparing for the Session

To make the most of your family photo session, it's essential to be well-prepared. Ensure everyone gets a good night's sleep before the session to avoid tired expressions and uncooperative moods. Provide a light, non-messy meal for your family beforehand to prevent hunger-related distractions during the shoot. Remember to pack essentials like water, snacks, a change of clothes, and any props or accessories you'd like to include. Lastly, have a conversation with your family about the importance of the session and the need for cooperation, patience, and a positive attitude.

During the Session: Common Mistakes to Avoid

During the photo session, there are a few common mistakes to be mindful of. First, avoid over-posing, and instead trust your photographer's guidance for relaxed, candid shots that capture your family's true essence. Second, don't force smiles; encourage your family to relax and enjoy the session, as genuine smiles and laughter will result in more authentic and heartwarming images. Finally, refrain from micromanaging the photographer. They are the experts, and allowing them to guide the session will result in the best angles, poses, and lighting techniques to capture your family's unique dynamic.

Displaying and Enjoying Your Family Portraits

Once your photos are ready, it's time to display and enjoy the beautiful results of your family photo session. Consider showcasing your favorite images as framed prints, canvas wraps, or metal prints, creating a stunning statement piece in your home. Another option is to compile a high-quality, custom-designed album that preserves your memories and can be passed down through generations. Sharing your family portraits with loved ones is a great way to spread the joy, so gift smaller prints or photo products such as calendars or photo books. Additionally, you can share your favorite images on social media or use digital photo frames to regularly enjoy and celebrate your captured memories.

Conclusion

A professional family photo session can be a fun and memorable experience with the right preparation. By following these tips and avoiding common mistakes, you'll ensure your family looks its best and creates images you'll cherish for a lifetime. With a skilled photographer and thoughtful planning, you'll be well on your way to capturing timeless memories that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
